THE POWER OF AFFIRMATIONS AND PRAYER
When we talk about affirmations we enter a field that coincides with that of prayer, whose term and meaning is nowadays influenced by religious beliefs that often deviate its pure understanding and meaning. In fact, the real secret of effective prayer consists in the ability to adjust our attitudes and beliefs that generate emotional and physiological responses – prayer is a real scientific method through which by controlling the mind and attention we can create the right internal conditions that will bring about the desired external effects.
Scientific prayer has nothing to do with trying to persuade God to make an exception, change the laws, or do anything for us: to pray in any of these ways is to be superstitious. Correct prayer is based on the law of mental equivalent.
This law tells us that whatever we truly believe tends to become true in our lives. For this to happen it is very important to connect with the body and feelings and transform the image we have of ourselves. In fact, as long as we have the image of a “sinner” or we think that we do not deserve, that we are limited, we can be sure that there will be no appreciable results in our prayers. There are different ways of praying depending on the level of development of the soul:
- at the first level of development, that of material consciousness, people pray without understanding the process, blindly asking a God they do not understand;
- at the second level we do more or less the same, or we tend to pray to deceased relatives or to invisible saints and masters: these people think that a deceased soul can act as a contact between them and God. In these first two levels we almost pray only exclusively to obtain things and a change of conditions;
- at the third level the person uses the technique of the mental equivalent of visualization and affirmations. Here we tune in with the Masters and with realized souls;
- at the fourth level we let God’s will be done at all times content in the realization that the Spirit knows everything better than us.
Beyond this level one awakens and knows that he already has everything, there is no lack, and therefore there is nothing to pray for; he is a Self-realized person and always rests in the awareness of God. These are the different levels and methods of prayer, which coincide with the pure intention that supports the affirmations of love for self-healing.
If you feel it, you can already pray in the highest way because you are already, in this moment, a divine being.
Examples of prayer are found in the Our Father, the Simple Prayer of Saint Francis, the Hail Mary, in some prayers of Mother Teresa of Calcutta and in the book Whispers from Eternity by Yogananda. “May Your love shine forever on the shrine of my devotion and may I awaken Your love in every heart.”
“I want to think, will, act, but You guide my thoughts, my will and my actions towards the right direction in everything.”
P. Yogananda
HOW DO LOVE AFFIRMATIONS FOR SELF-HEALING WORK?
Pure love is the most powerful source of healing that exists, it is the energy of union, the binding force of the cosmos. On the contrary, fear is the separating force, which generates all the other emotions that fuel individualism, hatred and loneliness. In order for self-healing affirmations to work and love to flow through our body, it is essential to connect to our deepest feelings, go beyond that protective frame of our ego and get in touch with that vulnerable part, the inner child, which sometimes lives stuck in fear and repressed by self-limiting beliefs.
This is why the practice of Mindfulness meditation is very important, as it allows us to pay attention in an intentional and kind manner to the totality of our experience in the present moment, recognizing and suspending any type of judgment or mental rumination.
The practice of Mindfulness thus leads us to transform fear and difficult emotions into joy of living and peace, through loving and non-judgmental attention.
When we have trained our attention and are able to easily enter a state of open awareness, affirming positive qualities with strength and determination, with full awareness and deep concentration, it is possible to dissolve the negative effects of a lifetime in a short time.
This, I repeat, on the condition that our feelings are also authentic and consistent with the affirmations of love.
Through the constant repetition of profound affirmations it is possible to develop the best mental qualities and even particular talents. No matter what you choose to become, tell yourself that you already are and connect with the feeling. Avoid as much as possible all influences that may suggest the opposite to your mind, without giving them too much importance, so as not to strengthen them, but simply letting them go. During this process of change, do not give energy to relationships that drain your energy, whose influence can undermine your efforts.
Don’t judge yourself for your mistakes or any weaknesses, remember that your illusions are not you. Hold on to the goodness within you, and remember that the greater the vigor, concentration and faith with which you affirm the qualities you wish to develop, the more quickly you will realize your aspirations.
THE THREE LEVELS OF AFFIRMATION FOR SELF-HEALING
To be effective, the affirmations must be repeated at three levels: at the beginning out loud, to be able to work on a conscious level; then gradually whispering them, penetrating the subconscious and finally just thinking about them with deep internal concentration in the point between the eyebrows, to arrive at modifying and shaping the superconsciousness. The subconscious mind is a storehouse that acts as a receptacle for all thoughts and impressions that come from the senses and the conscious mind.
It acts indiscriminately and automatically, like the echo that sends all sounds back, whether they are harmonic or not. It acts according to the primitive and instinctive survival system of flight or attack, classifying things as useful or, on the contrary, dangerous for the survival of the human biological machine. This enormously affects our way of relating to life
For example, if in the past we had a bad experience with a particularly rude person and this person wore a beret, every time we meet an individual with a beret we will be inclined to instinctively classify him as rude. To get out of this game of the subconscious mind and regain command of the situation, we must be as aware as possible and practice self-presence in daily life, recognizing the intrusion dictated by habit as it arises.
The best times to practice an affirmation are before bed, in the morning as soon as you wake up and towards the end of deep meditation. Remember that affirmation is an act of becoming, it must be done deliberately and with positive enthusiasm, and it is necessary that at every level you consider yourself as a cause and not an effect.
The affirmation must be positive, rhythmic and full of strength, it must be made in the present moment, avoiding using negative meanings such as: “From tomorrow I will no longer be late”, perhaps changing it with “I am always punctual, awake and ready in my every action”
EXAMPLES OF AFFIRMATIONS FOR SELF-HEALING
Affirmations remind us to be more empathetic and compassionate towards ourselves and help us develop better thought patterns, so we spend more time and energy on appreciation and love and less time on negativity towards ourselves.
For those who are new to affirmations, it is recommended to start by thinking of a few “I am” affirmations and repeat them a couple of times each morning. These “I am” statements can be anything we want to hear about ourselves, such as “I am confident” or “I am loved.” When we repeat these affirmations, we allow ourselves to truly embody that feeling, so that we can carry it with us for the rest of the day.
Some additional affirmations for self-love include:
- I am worthy of compassion.
- I accept myself with an abundance of love.
- Are quite.
- I feel loved.
- I invite love and compassion into my life.
- I love myself, no matter what.
